Wreckage

Wreckage (1992-93)

As I sit amidst the wreckage,

Of shattered dreams and failed effort,

Lacking the strength and the will

To fight.,

As I bid adieu to the ships that depart,

With the cargo that once was vainly sought,

As I lower resignedly into the grave

Passions once strong, overpowered by circumstance.

As I sit alone, alone in mourning,

And conduct a reluctant funeral service,

As phantoms of the future and past

Blur into a general greyness.

As I shake the corpses one last time.,

With the dull listlessness of duty.,

And even as I search for life I prepare the graves

For the dying and the certainly dead.

As all cemeteries are calm., so shall this be.,

If you pass by., pay your respects.

Don’t wake the dead, just leave them be.,

Mourn their stormy life and violent end.

Do you hear me? Then Respond!
