Airtel 9 + 1 Identity Theft : Outgoing Barred

Airtel + Its dealers have some kind of a scam going whereby the dealers resubmit an individual’s identity over and again in order to get connections for bhajiwalahs etc who may not have an “address proof”.

Airtel Auditors seem to have raised an objection about this. Once there are 9 + 1 connections in anyone’s name all outgoing calls are barred., now.

It becomes the duty of the individual to apply for a duplicate SIM card and resubmit address proof. Thus Airtel makes more money than before.

Right now Bangalore outlets are out of duplicate SIM cards. Airtel won’t cancel your prepaid connections. They ask you to wait for 3 months so that the card gets “automatically cancelled” and they give those numbers out to fresh and unsuspecting customers. If that was a stolen number then the new owner gets harassed by the old owner.

They also try to sell you post paid connections telling you that those are “more reliable” than prepaid. They tell you that getting a SIM card from a AIRTEL showroom is “more reliable” than from a dealer but they don’t cut out their profitable equations with the dealers.

Something BIG is going on – when the private sector victimises their customers – they make the govt. sector look like Gods!

The service reps are totally detached and verbally sympathise with your problems. They don’t send you any letter.. you have no legal document stating their botch up.

I wish some powerful people would slap a lawsuit on those blokes. The middle class guys will adjust to this situation. All we care about is getting on with our lives…..

In America, there would be a flurry of litigation in situations like these.

They say in America liberty is delivered free to individuals, in India you have to fight for it tooth and nail… or live without it.
