For more than 20 years, I have observed that we can never permanently solve the problems of another human being. Your timely help will only postpone whatever suffering they were enduring or about to endure.
Then why help? See Satya Sutra : Future, Fate and Attitude : Think clearly, act decisively.
We help others only because we want to or because it kills us not to help them. It is not going to make any real difference to them. What we do to others service, help, love etc is what we do to ourselves.
What we do to ourselves, sacrifice, misery etc is what we inflict on others.
This might sound funny but it is true.
We serve others and it benefits us not them, we serve ourselves and it benefits others.
So if you want to help society.. be nice to yourself. :D
