Einstein said that the future was as “real” as the past.
All the points in space and time are all completely defined and already in “existence”
The determinists said that the future was decided was because each cause had a definite effect, traceable to the “first cause”.
Many rshis said that the future was pre-decided and that it was possible to “read” the future.
Let us assume that these people are right. Let us assume that the future is “already there or here”.
The fact remains that most of us have no clue what will happen next. When I say “us” I mean human minds.
Human minds as a general rule.. have some memory of the past, some experience of the present and some expectations of the future. We believe that our thoughts influence our actions and that our actions determine the future, at least our future.
I think that human minds are like this because we are meant to be like this. A human mind that “knows” “future events” will be tempted to do nothing. Because nothing they think, say or do will make any difference.
Human minds have preferences. They like pleasure over pain as a general rule. They are motivated by emotions and desires.
Sannyasa Vadins tell us that if we overcome attachments to pleasure and pain, then we will be “blissful” and let nature taker her course.
Some of them ask us to renounce “everything material”..
Others (like Sri Krishna) ask us to do our duties and renounce only expectations of the result. This appears to make the greatest sense.
We cannot help “doing” as long as we are a part of nature. We must “at least” breathe, or at least have breathed once in the past even if we are a great yogi today.
The 94 old year Sanskrit teacher said that we must all think clearly, take the advice of wise well-wishers and act. We don’t know the future because we are not meant to know. We can think and decide because we are meant to think and decide. We can’t control the outcomes, does not mean we act and live like unthinking fools.
I personally do believe that hindu predictive astrology has truth in it. But I don’t see people’s horoscopes anymore. I don’t think we should spend a lot of time checking horoscopes. If we were mean to “remember” or call to mind the future, we would have been able to do it. Indeed sometimes we do have prophetic dreams.
I think we need to think and follow the wisest course as known to us at a given time. You may think we need to impulsively do whatever we like.. I guess our own nature comes into this.
But I like what the 94 year old sanskrit teacher said.. “think and act. Follow what appears to be the best course. I like to think the rest is fate. That is just one siddhanta – there are many siddhantas.“

Yes, each one of us is a potential Siddhartha.. but we never explore that potential .. at least never at the right time
