Knowledge (Gnyanam) Vs Superstition (Maya)

It is much easier to spread superstition than it is to spread knowledge.

Access is only one of the issues wrt knowledge.

  • The highest knowledge does require access to the right sources, but if you devote time and energy, you will find it.
  • Superstition will search for you and find you. It will chase you, play on your vulnerabilities, fears and greed and it will get you.
  • Knowledge requires ability to learn, self-discipline, rigour, interest and an ability to accept the truth you find, with an open mind.
  • Superstition needs just desire and fear and a bit of credulity and wishful thinking.

All the democracy, all the free primary education and higher education in the world will not eliminate superstition. All the access to free information on the internet will not eliminate superstition.

  • There are more genuine people and manipulative people who wish to spread misinformation than there are good knowledgeable people who are able and willing to spread correct information.
  • But that is not that problem, the problem is that very, very few people actually “want” any knowledge.
  • And not everyone who wants knowledge wants it for the right reason or for the right purpose.

Yet, it is said, a small lamp can dispel a great amount of darkness, so one can do one’s bit and hope!
