I liked this movie. Saw it on HBO yesterday. I like all the Tom Hanks movies I have seen.
But what is special about this movie is that it talks openly about how USA funded the Afghans to drive the Soviets out of Afganisthan arming them with billions of dollars of weapons via Israel etc, covertly.
And just as in Iraq, their “rehab budget” was not even a million dollars. So while it is possible that the Iraqis and Afghans were happy to get rid of their oppressors, they were left with no residual love for USA leading to a whole new brand of problems…
Perhaps, they are better at eliminating their enemies than at making friends by alleviating the suffering of people. Is there a lesson for India in this?
