An Adivasi girl was stripped and kicked and a little Adivasi boy was killed. They were the stragglers in a protest that the police were dispersing. They were set upon by the people and the police did not protect them. By standers took pictures of the girl running away on their cell phone cameras. Disgusting.
When Draupadi spoke of her humiliation (in BRChopra’s tele serial of Mahabharat – written by Poona Scholars) – Krishna asks her “why do you think you alone were insulted? The insult was to the Kuru dynasty – the insult was to the Bharat Varsha (India).
Every time a section of the society teams up and targets the young and helpless, it shows how degenerate that society is. A great society protects its weak.
Ours is not a great society. It is a society that has insulted and degraded itself with bad behaviour such as this.
As a part of this sad society, I am ashamed and would like to apologise to the girl, the boy and their families. Great as your loss is, the loss to our society is tremendous.
Sorry gentle, helpless souls. We are so terribly sorry, for our incompetence and impotence in creating a society where you could live your life in dignity and freedom. We are far too busy with our daily activities, work and entertainment to even raise a voice in your protest, let alone to punish the wrong doers.
God give you strength and succour – we will give you nothing. We will shut out the distress in our hearts, and avoid talking and thinking about you. We will make every effort to forget you and to get on with our lives. We are all just glad that it wasn’t us and that it wasn’t anyone we knew personally.
I have only my tears and misery to offer as solace to you. And what good will that do to you? I have anger and rage against those social offenders who have hurt you. But you can be sure that I will do nothing to stop them, punish them or reform them. May be my tears will wash away your pain., how I wish this were true.
